Acrylic and Mixed Media Artist
Brittany Freeman is a multidisciplinary artist hailing from the heart of the Midwest, whose faceted approach reflects the diverse landscapes of her upbringing. Raised in various suburban settings across the United States, Brittany's art is a vivid tapestry woven with themes of suburban life, neurodivergence, acceptance, comfort, and escapism.
Brittany's artistic journey began with textiles, making realistic animal sculptures, each piece a reflection of her intricate understanding of form and the emotional ties between people and pets. This work led to a fruitful career in toy prototyping and work in film and theater as a prop-maker. However, a major car accident left her unable to create, prompting a transformative shift in her practice.
Turning to acrylic painting as a means of expression, Brittany discovered a newfound passion that resonated deeply within her soul. Drawn to its versatility and immediacy, acrylic painting became Brittany's primary medium, allowing her to explore themes of identity and connection with a boldness and clarity previously unattainable.
In her vibrant and evocative paintings, Brittany captures the essence of human experience with a sensitivity and depth. Figurative in nature, her works pulse with life, each a testament to the complexity and beauty of the human spirit.
Bold colors and impressionistic style characterize Brittany's art, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in dreamy worlds bathed in light. Through her art, Brittany seeks to forge connections, sparking conversations and fostering empathy in today’s modern world.
As Brittany continues to evolve as an artist, she remains committed to pushing artistic boundaries and challenging perceptions, using her creativity as a force for change and healing. She invites us to embark on a journey of self-discovery, where acceptance and connection illuminate the path forward.
My current body of work explores the ways individuals seek solace through technology and media. I take a compassionate approach to exploring themes of dissociation and escapism. Utilizing impressionistic techniques and vibrant colors, I aim to capture the emotional experience of those who find comfort in the glow of screens.
The intentionally large scale of the pieces in this series invites viewers into intimate, almost voyeuristic encounters with solitary figures. Through these depictions of quiet repose, I seek to evoke a sense of shared human experience where the viewer can empathize with the need for emotional refuge.
My work is driven by a desire to normalize and validate the array of coping mechanisms people employ in the face of modern challenges. By portraying these scenes with empathy, I hope to challenge the stigma often associated with seeking comfort through technology and media. Instead, I aim to foster a dialogue that celebrates the complexities of human emotional experience in today's digital age.
Through the use of light and color, I aim to convey not only the external beauty of these moments, but the landscapes of emotion that accompany them. The luminous colors of electronic light in dimly lit spaces create an otherworldly atmosphere, while an impressionistic style allows captures the dreamlike nature of these private moments. Time seems to stand still in these dreamy scenes, Inviting viewers to reflect on their own relationship with technology.
Ultimately, my work is a testament to the power of art to provoke thought and emotion. By creating these visual narratives of solitude and self-soothing, I hope to offer viewers a space for introspection and empathy, encouraging them to consider the ways in which we navigate our inner worlds in an increasingly interconnected but often isolating society.
